I had heard from people that almost everything from GW is server side, but I assume they meant the information saved on each individual characters.
I don't know if one can extract the music from it, nor am I interested in extracting it. However, I am quite sure that you need to be prepare for some encryption.
The easiest way are still buying it from DirectSong of course.
Now that music is talked about, I wonder if Chapter 2 going to have Asian oirented music? Asian oriented music from Jeremy Soule? Hmm...

Yes, but it got DRM crap on it which prevents you to burn it on a CD. If they allowed burning I'd have bought the music a long time ago...
I have the Collectors Edition which does have the original GW soundtrack included and I love the music. That they don't allow me to purchase the add on music in a similar way just sucks...

Yeap, I have the CE too but I really feel shafted when they sell the addon packs with DRM.

The 1st pack (Orginal Sound Track) does have burn to cd rights. Then you can use that audio cd and import in to iTunes like normal.
SF & BP1 packs do not. Not sure about the people that have the "special" edition verision of GW and there 11 minute mini-pak.
Here's how I can feel safe with DRM files. The way I set up my pc install clean copy of windows, all the updates, install any software that requires "activiation", this includes setting up music file w/ DRM so I can play them anytime on my pc. Using Norton Ghost 2003 I then make an "image" of my hard drive. At any time I can revet to this "clean" copy of windows aka before I trashed it and not worry about any DRM / Activation of programs.
I tend to re-load the clean image when I add any new software that has limited internet activation or it getting too old.
